THE Sun shone on 37 RGS students as they embarked on their Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expedition in stunning Nidderdale.
Blessed with fine weather from start to finish, outdoor activity company BXM’s instructors Daryl, Kelly and Dave made full use of the opportunities to teach navigation skills.
On day one the six groups walked around 14km from Pateley Bridge to Thruscross Reservoir to camp, then on day two returned the 12km to Pateley Bridge along the river. The total elevation was around 500m.
RGS DfE co-ordinator Ruth Smith said: “For some students this was their first experience of camping. All did really well, remaining cheerful even when the temperature dropped to four degrees overnight! Well done to all.”
She added: “We even celebrated a camp birthday! Josh’s Group had brought a fab cake for him and we all sang Happy Birthday! A great way to be with friends on the day.”
