Students to set up second-hand uniform shop

STUDENTS are appealing to parents to donate second-hand uniforms to help save families money, in addition to reducing waste and raising funds for school improvements.

Ripon Grammar School’s student-led school council plan to open a shop in the first weeks of the summer holidays, in time for the start of the new school year in September.

Head girl Aleena Allen said: “We recognise the cost of a new uniform can be daunting and want to ensure a good supply of affordable second-hand uniform is available in one central place.

“This will also have the benefit of reducing the number of items ending up in landfill and also raise funds for school.”

Head boy Adam Carpenter added: “We will spend any profits on improving the students' experience, such as buying new sports team kit, maintenance of the school environment including seating areas and recreational areas.

“After the initial opening, if sufficient donations are received, we hope to run the shop on a half-termly basis.”

Donations can be left at RGS reception, at Bishopton House, Clotherholme Road during school opening hours.
