STUDENTS took the opportunity to brush up on their German language skills on a day trip close to home.
Around 50 Year 10 and Year 12 students tested their German during a scavenger hunt and, after enjoying some typical German snacks for lunch, focussed on their speaking skills in the afternoon.
Student Charlotte Oakley described it as an amazing experience: “It gave us the chance to put our German skills to the test while navigating and practising our speaking.
“Starting the day with German orienteering was a fun way to practise our vocabulary in a real-life setting. It was great to get out of the classroom and apply what we've learned.
“The experience of mingling with others and trying to find our way around was eye-opening, and even though there were some challenges, I learned a lot from it. We also got to enjoy some delicious classic German food.
“In the afternoon, we focused on honing our speaking skills by cramming as much vocabulary as possible before engaging in one-to-one conversations with a partner.
“This exercise made us think about how to condense our content while also expanding our answers. I found this time very valuable for improving my speaking.
“Overall, it was a fantastic day that allowed us to escape the routine of school and fully immerse ourselves in German language, culture, and cuisine. I'm very thankful for the experience.”
