Students choose charity for year of fundraising

Ripon Grammar School students have chosen to raise money for the charity Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) throughout the next academic year

Head boy Oliver Kitson explained that the charity was chosen by sixth form students: "Although there were a number of other worthy nominations, we are incredibly pleased to be raising money for such a brilliant cause through Charity Week and other events throughout the coming year.
"Médecins Sans Frontières is a charitable organisation made up of medical professionals who provide medical aid to countries affected by conflict, epidemics and other humanitarian disasters – while remaining independent and neutral.
"They are currently particularly focused on the crisis in Gaza, the ongoing Sudan conflict and the Rohingya refugee crisis in South-East Asia.
"As a sixth form, and ultimately as a whole school community, we are proud to be supporting such a global cause that supports the innocent victims of conflict and disaster around the world.
"Our first opportunity to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières is on Friday during the school’s commemoration service at Ripon Cathedral, where we will be running a collection.
"It would be amazing to start our fundraising mission strongly, as the RGS community always does, so make sure to bring some change on Friday no matter how much you can donate!
"At the beginning of the new academic year, we will also be very happy to hear any suggestions for what students would like to see happening during Charity Week. Feel free to talk to us about your ideas of activities that can be held to raise money for this amazing cause."
