RGS show jumpers excel at national championships

LOUISE HUGHES reports on the RGS equestrian team's impressive performance at the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Plate National championships

IT'S been a busy start to the RGS equestrian team calendar. Since the start of term the 15-strong equestrian team has competed in three inter-school competitions.

The team earned qualification in the 70cm and 80cm Show Jumping Plate event at the annual National School Championships in Addington, Buckinghamshire on Monday, October 21, with team members Phoebe Gough (Year 7), Betsy Radcliffe (Year 8), Thomas Ford (Year 10) and BB Hughes (Year 10) travelling to compete.

Everyone jumped clear rounds in the 70cm and achieved an incredible third place with Thomas, also qualifying as an individual, achieving a fabulous tenth place.

The very competitive 80cm followed, with the team again producing a super result and finishing in a very respectable seventh place.
