A FORMER police detective with extensive experience of the effects of online crime is helping ensure RGS students know how to navigate the internet and social media safely.
Sarah Lynch, of Go Wise Online, has been talking with students in all year groups about issues ranging from internet safety and county lines to issues of consent and taking care on a night out.
“We all appreciate that growing up is hard for our young people. The world may change but our children do not, and still need support from parents and carers. Technology is ever evolving with many of our young people feeling the pressure to be online with their peer groups.
“All young people may encounter images and chat that upsets them online, simply ensuring regular chat about their online world will naturally support young people to open up during times of stress.
“Sadly, we do have to talk to our young people about county lines and having the knowledge with confidence to say no during such situations, including recognising the grooming that may take place.
“In addition, we chatted about supporting each other and seeking help if you think your friends are in danger.
I have attached my presentation parent links to support families with placing parental controls and support for their devices.”
She added: “Once again thank you to Ripon Grammar School students and staff for their fantastic participation during my presentations.”
