RIPON Grammar School students and staff organised a magnificent garden party, with food and games, to welcome those starting their boarding journey with RGS in September.
GCSE food and nutrition students, under the guidance of their teacher Mrs Solden, demonstrated their consummate skills by producing a delicious afternoon tea.
The sumptuous spread, enjoyed by new students and their families, included home-made scones, cakes, brownies, quiches, tarts and salads, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.
In addition to Year 10 students, some Year 11 food and nutrition students volunteered to come back to school to help with last-minute preparations.
Mrs Solden said: “We all really enjoyed making the food and students demonstrated amazing initiative, decision-making skills and teamwork.
“They are already accomplished cooks, but this time they were catering for large numbers. I am extremely proud of them.”
Huge thanks also to Carrick’s fish, fruit and vegetable suppliers, who have a stall in Ripon Market every Thursday, and kindly donated food.
And thank you to Mrs Mackenzie, who provided all the linen tablecloths, inherited from her late mother, Ripon swimming teacher Dame Sylvia Grice.
