Congratulations to our bronze DofE students

OUR 35 intrepid bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award participants enjoyed generally fine weather, if windy at times, during their successful assessed expedition, writes RGS DofE coordinator Ruth Smith.

Navigation skills were good and all pupils managed the second long day out on the hills. The total distance covered was 25km with 1,000m of ascent from Grassington to Kettlewell campsite, then finishing at Malham Visitor Centre.

A bonus was football night! Playing ‘keepie-uppies’ and then huddled round the laptop, we were able to share in the European Cup quarter final England match. The whole campsite cheered those all important penalties!

We also had brilliant sightings of curlews and lapwings on the moorland, and a barn owl hunting near the campsite both in the evening and morning.

Well done Ripon Grammar - you stuck to your task, showed good teamwork and achieved your goals on the expedition!
