Careers fair offers a host of opportunities

MORE than 70 experts from the world of work and education will give Ripon Grammar School students a taste of some of the wide range of opportunities available to them on leaving school.

The school’s annual Careers and Higher Education Fair on March 20, from 6.30pm to 9pm, is drawing first-class exhibitors from all over the country.

Representatives from more than 20 top universities, including Cambridge, Newcastle and Nottingham are keen to meet students to discuss opportunities after A-levels.

And employers from a wide range of sectors, including engineering, healthcare, hospitality, biotechnology, law, electronics, the forces, dentistry, accountancy and veterinary surgery will be there to answer questions and talk about what a career with them entails.

Among the professionals taking part will be around ten past pupils, including a medical doctor, a Bank of England statistician, a laboratory analyst, commercial lawyer and an estate manager.

Head of careers Bob Walker says: “It will be a superb opportunity for all students and parents to talk, face to face, with representatives from a wide range of top universities, organisations and employers about the opportunities available. We’ve attracted a superb range of exhibitors.

“We also have a stand dedicated to apprenticeships, including degree apprenticeships. There really is something for everyone.”

The event is open to students and their parents across all school years. Mr Walker added: “If you are lower down the school, this is your first real chance to go around the event and start discussing your ideas for the future with your family and myself.

“For students higher up in the school, this is an ideal opportunity to speak to alumni about their career paths, speak to the outreach teams from some of the best universities in the country and even get a part-time job!”
