Badminton star nets top grades

A TEENAGE badminton star is one step closer to her dream career in medicine after netting top scores in her GCSEs.

Anson Fong, 16, from Ripon, who has played for Yorkshire in national championships, gained 11 grade 9s and one grade 7.

“It was challenging to balance three to four badminton training sessions a week with my studies.

“It was difficult to stay disciplined and stick to my study schedule at times but, in the process, I learned a lot about time management and organisation.

“I am glad the effort I put into studying has paid off. I will continue to work hard in sixth form and hope to get the grades required to study medicine at university.”

Anson was a member of Yorkshire’s county badminton team which came third in the prestigious nationwide U18 Inter-Counties Tournament in April.

In addition to being a member of the RGS debating club, she sings with the school’s chamber choir and the senior girls’ choir, having achieved Grade 5 in vocal and Grade 8 in piano music exams.
